Tearing up flooring is a messy process. Frankly, its a pain to do it manually. First you have to be careful not to cut or damage the sub flooring. This can happen if you use a power saw to cut the floor into smaller pieces. You will be using a pry bar and mallet so you want manageable size areas. It is difficult to pry off the flooring from the subfloor because the adhesive compounds that holds them together can be like cement. Again use extra caution because replacing sub-flooring is super expensive. Flooring adhesives and removing epoxies can be very difficult to remove. We don’t use chemicals as they are toxic, messy and don’t work. Brute force, grinding and chiseling is the only way.
